Project Background
AEC were appointed to design and manage the complete replacement of over 70 internal fire doors at this primary school, delivering a high-impact programme of fire safety and compartmentation improvements supported through successful Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) investment.
The works included the installation of new certified fire-rated door sets incorporating compliant ironmongery, intumescent strips and fire-rated glazing to achieve 30-minute fire resistance. Corridor fire doors were enhanced with alarm-linked hold-open devices, improving day-to-day circulation while maintaining life safety performance. Non-compliant partitions and glazed screens were replaced with robust fire-rated metal stud constructions using FireLine plasterboard and fire-resisting glazing to reinstate effective compartmentation throughout the building.
Phased evening working ensured the school remained fully operational, delivering a safer, fully compliant and more resilient environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
